Cherokee Animal Clinic

...Providing the highest standards of excellence..

Dr Anthony

Just a little history......

Dr. Holcomb was born and raised in Rusk, Texas, one of the sons of proud parents, James E. and Mary D. Holcomb. He went to school in Rusk, graduating from Rusk High School in 1983. He attended Texas A&M University from 1983 to 1989 and earned his BS in Animal Science. Then he attended Louisiana State University, School of Veterinary Medicine from 1989 to 1993 graduating in May of that year with his degree of DVM.

During those years, he met and married his "right hand", Chris, in 1986. They have 2 children, Ashley who will graduate from Rusk High School in 2004 and Amy, who started Kindergarten in 2001.

Anthony always knew he wanted to be a Veterinarian, telling his kindergarten and elementary teachers his desires at an early age. Many of them remember this, including a recent visitor, Cubby Brown.

He also knew he wanted to practice in his home town. When he graduated, he returned to Rusk and Cherokee Animal Clinic began. He operated out of a portable Veterinary unit the first 2 years of practice while Chris operated the office from their dining room at home. He made house calls for most patients and saw a few on the back patio as well.

And Today......

Dr. Anthony's practice has continued to grow and a new State-Of-The-Art clinic/hospital was built on Highway 84 to offer larger facilities and even better care for his patients.

He sees every type of animal found in this area from the companion animals to the food and pleasure animals, as well as exotics, including birds, snakes, and all those little critters some folks enjoy. The game wardens in this area frequently bring in injured birds or deer (and a bobcat at one point) for him to treat and rehabilitate and release.

Anthony is the ONLY veterinarian in Cherokee County to be a member of the Texas Academy of Veterinary Practitioners. This elite group of vets strive to provide the best medicine for their patients through continuing education on the latest medicines, procedures, equipment, & techniques. The State of Texas requires Veterinarians to have 15 hours of Continuing Education per year while the Academy requires 50 hours per year. This is just one of the extra steps that makes Dr. Holcomb an outstanding veterinarian!

Dr. Holcomb is also a member of the Society of Theriogenology, requiring him to have extensive knowledge in breeding and artificial insemination, and he is a member of the Bovine Practicioners. He serves as a volunteer in the Rusk Volunteer Fire Department and is very active in the First United Methodist Church of Rusk. He is currently serving as President of Methodist Men and he's on the Rusk ISD School Board.

The people of Rusk love Dr. Anthony and so do his patients. He is very compassionate, caring, and strives to provide the absolute best medicine possible to his patients.

Come on in and meet him anytime!
